It is a form of diabetes mellitus induced by pregnancy. It is believed that the hormones of pregnancy reduce the capacity which has the body to use and respond to insulin action. The result is a high level of blood glucose (hyperglycaemia).
The incidence of DMG is about 3-10% of pregnant women.
